FERC Assessment: U.S. Electric Grid Counts on 29 Gigawatts of Demand Response

According to a staff report from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in December 2014, the electric grid in the United States relies on 29 gigawatts of demand response. Findings included that independent system operator markets for demand response increased over 9% between 2012 and 2013; and that demand response resources were critical to balancing systems during extreme cold weather events.
