Advanced Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) is pleased to announce new members—ecobee and Stem—that further expand AEMA’s reach into residential, commercial, and industrial distributed energy resources.

Ecobee is a residential smart thermostat and sensor company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. Stem is an energy storage company located in Millbrae, California, focused on commercial and industrial consumers.

“Stem is excited to be joining AEMA as a customer-sited energy storage aggregator, “ said Polly Shaw, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Communications. “We think that AEMA’s focus on advocacy for market-based solutions is critical for our customers throughout the U.S. and Ontario, Canada.”

“As a smart home and automation company, we are already seeing the benefits of AEMA membership at ecobee,” said Nkechi Ogbue, Manager, Regulatory Affairs.  “Considering the spectrum of grid services ecobee smart thermostat customers can provide, we are confident that the AEMA will continue to demonstrate the value of this Distributed Energy Resource (DER) across markets.

“We are thrilled for ecobee and Stem to join our advocacy, in particular as we engage more intentionally in Ontario with the new administration,” stated Katherine Hamilton, executive director of AEMA. “Having additional voices and perspectives is critical to opening new markets for distributed energy resources and increasing cost-effective energy management choices for consumers of all types.”

AEMA also congratulates Nest, a member of AEMA for several years, on receiving the 2018 Change Agent of the Year award from the Smart Electric Power Alliance for reducing demand during the solar eclipsein 750,000 households across the country that voluntarily opted-in to the program with no payment or financial incentive.AEMA was an organizational partner of the Grid Evolution Summit in Washington, DC.

AEMA continues its focus by Independent System Operator region as well as by state on legislative and regulatory advocacy to open markets and consumer opportunities in distributed energy resources.
