STATEMENT OF KATHERINE HAMILTON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ADVANCED ENERGY MANAGEMENT ALLIANCE:
Advanced Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) is disappointed by the Administration’s recommendation to attempt a bailout of uneconomic power plants. This decision will increase electric costs for consumers, distort the competitive markets, and reduce the ability for lower cost, reliable, economic, and cleaner solutions to participate in a market that to date has functioned as designed. Demand response and other distributed energy resources provide choices for consumers that keep prices lower for everyone on the electric grid. This action effectively creates a planned electric economy that does not seem consistent with U.S. economic principles.
